My name is Semisi Faasolo who majors in
the undergraduate program of “Bachelor of Science in Public Policy and Public
Affairs” with concentration in “Public Leadership and Management.” On May 11,
2015 I was awarded the Certificate of Leadership and Ethics.
I interned internationally in Tonga with the
Ministry of Meteorology, Environment, Information, Disaster Planning, Energy,
Communication and Climate Change known as (MEIDECC). I worked specifically with
the Ministry of Information because of the essential and important need for
policy guidelines. This governmental department is the newest department, and
still in its infantry stag which needed someone to do a thorough research and
write up a comprehensive reporting on fact findings and things that could
spearhead the department with its policy formulation.
There were many goals that I was hoping to
achieve through this internship, here are three goals that are on the top of
the list.
Firstly, I was hoping to learn Tonga’s
Constitution, Acts and Public Policy pertaining to how the government is being
run.
Furthermore, I was also hoping to gain
maximum knowledge from experts and politicians during my tenure as an intern in
the Government of Tonga.
Finally, I was in hope to learn the
hierarchy system of a monarchial ruling nation with the new democratic form of
government in place that is also in its early phase. This was due to Amendments
that were made to one of the longest running Constitution in the world under
the leadership of the previous King George V who passed away two years
ago.
Hi Semisi,
ReplyDeleteYour internship seems very interesting! I used to intern for a nonprofit organization a few years ago called ActionAid. My main role was to research the gender-specific impact of climate change in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Learning about women's rights in the face of climate was probably some of the most interesting work I've dome in my professional/academic career so far.
